5 Ways to Stay Productive When Working From Home During COVID-19

Like many other Americans, our staff at iGoPink are adjusting to working for home due to COVID-19, or also known as Coronavirus. Being productive within a space that is designed to be cozy and relaxing is no easy feat. Luckily, we’ve found 5 ways to stay productive when working from home during the COVID-19 outbreak.

5 Ways to Stay Productive When Working From Home During COVID-19 1

1. Create a Schedule and Stick to It

With not having anywhere to go, it can be difficult to find the motivation to get up and start your day when you normally would. Also, it is hard to stay on track with tasks, emails, and chores if you do not have those items scheduled into your daily routine. The best way we have found to combat this is to write out a daily schedule on your phone that starts from the time you wake up to the time you get into bed. It lays out what you should be focusing on when and for how long.

2. Write Out a Daily To-Do List

Part of your morning routine, after drinking coffee and eating breakfast, should include writing out your daily tasks. Usually, we write out our tasks at the start of the week and cross them off as we go, but we have found during this period of working from home, we are most productive and efficient when we have a daily to do list. Start with the items that are top priority for that day (typically 2-3 larger tasks), and then list a few others that you would like to accomplish that day.

3. Eliminate Distractions as Much as Possible

Now, we know this tip may not be the easiest for those with kids in the house, but eliminating distractions as much as you can will help you be productive during your work hours. If you are able to set up a temporary office space in a spare bedroom away from TV or the couch can make it easier to focus. If you don’t have a spare bedroom, try working without the TV on and instead play some light music to help yourself concentrate. Another way to help limit distractions is to silence your phone or put it on do not disturb.

4. Meal Prep 1-2 Times Per Week

Being at home all day can make it really hard to not just snack your day away. The best way to avoid this and keep a routine is by prepping your meals for lunch and dinner (and snacks too if you are like us) once or twice per week. Just by spending an hour or two preparing food for the week, you will save time during your work week and avoid staring in the pantry, constantly looking for snacks!

5. Create Time for Self-Care Breaks

The beauty of working from home is the ability to work at your own pace while still accomplishing all of your tasks! But it’s important to not neglect your mental or physical health during these confusing and changing times. Make sure to schedule breaks throughout your workday to do something to put your mind at ease and burn off some pent-up energy – take a walk outside, read a book, scroll through social media, do an at home workout or yoga session, or journal! It’ll help break up your day and keep you sane.
