A Must For Everyone During Covid-19

The daily increase in numbers of coronavirus cases is making each one of us Indians uncomfortable. Covid-19 has become a crucial concern for people all over the world as well as in India. According to Indian health ministry website, the total number of cases has crossed the mark 2000 along with the death count 50. The government of India is doing a wonderful job and also the states are ramping up efforts to control the crisis in every which way possible.

India is already undergoing 21 day lockdown and to make life easier for all of us the emergency helplines have already been activated. Now the government has also developed a mobile application to make citizens aware of the current scenario and to track the spread of coronavirus. To top it all the Indian government launched its COVID-19 tracking app, Aarogya Setu, for both Android and iOS users on Thursday.

This Aarogya Setu App has been developed by the National Informatics Centre. The app aims to get people involved proactively in the best relevant practices and follow the advisories to help contain COVID-19.

Arogya Setu App for mobiles

This app ‘Arogya Setu’ requires our smartphone location and Bluetooth to let us know if we have come in contact with a Corona positive person. This app also tells us if we are in and around a Corona high-risk zone.

Using the location of our phone and Bluetooth connectivity, this Aarogya Setu app tells us if we have been in the proximity of 6-feet of an infected person. In case we find ourselves to be in the high-risk zone then we are advised to test immediately by calling the helpline number 1075. The test can be scheduled. Aarogya Setu App also includes a chatbot that answers our query about Coronavirus.

Here is what it looks like… Yes I have already installed Aarogya Setu App on my mobile. It was very reassuring to have it tell me that I was not at the risk of getting infected. This app also provides contact numbers of every states COVID-19 Helpcenters.

After this, it takes us to the instructions on how to install the app and how it works.

So as you can see, it works with Location and Bluetooth data. The App detects other devices with Aarogya Setu installed that have come in the Bluetooth / GPS proximity of our phone and captures this information. In case of any of those recent contacts Test positive, the App calculates our risk of infection based on recency and proximity of our interaction and recommends suitable action. Well here is a doubt…. What, if the affected person is not carrying a smart phone with Aarogya Setu App installed!

It has a Self Assessment Test also and we have tried it and liked the way it works to reassure individuals and control panic. After providing all details, this was my result….

 Though we think that it is a very good initiative by the GOI to fight against Corona Virus and we do recommend all our Indian citizens to use this app but keeping in view the recent hostility by a particular group of people, how successful this app will be, we cannot say. But yes it surely will be worth a try.
