Celebrating 11 years of blogging & my biggest book sale ever! Woohoo!

Yep. 11 years. I’m sorta amazed I’ve been at it this long myself. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be blogging about cancer, grief and loss for 11 years. Of course, never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d get cancer either.

To be clear, we are celebrating 11 years of blogging, community, sharing, learning from and supporting one another. We are not celebrating anything about cancer. Nope. Uh, uh. There’s not one little thing (other than meeting some nice people) to celebrate about cancer. Cancer sucks. Period.

As I’ve mentioned before, whenever someone asks me what I do, the next logical question I get is, what do you write about? When I tell people I write about cancer and grief; well, let’s just say you can see the uncomfortableness kick in. Often they don’t know what to say next. Awkward.

Which is exactly why I write about cancer and grief. We need to talk candidly about these topics. Maybe if we did talk more openly and honestly, conversations about them wouldn’t be as awkward.

Those of us who blog all have different goals, but if you’re interested in reading some of my blogging tips, these posts might be helpful. Or not. Depends on your goals I guess.

20 Blogging Tips!

This post is to celebrate 11 years of blogging. It’s also to celebrate 11 years of readers sharing what are often very personal, intimate details about their lives that have been impacted by cancer, loss and grief.

Why did I start this blog?

My mother’s experience with metastatic breast cancer, and then my own breast cancer diagnosis roughly two years after her death, continue to drive me – one blog post, one word at a time. MBC will always be at the heart of my advocacy.

Okay. Fine. But why do I keep blogging?

I love to write. It seems to be my purpose these days, or one of them anyway. Blogging is my advocacy platform. It’s also part of my author platform. Writing is work. It takes a lot of time and energy. I think long and hard about every single post I publish, heck, about every single word I write/post. I probably overthink every word way too much.

But hey, that’s what I tend to do. Overthink things. Which isn’t always good, I might add.

My blogging anniversary is always a time to do a little reflecting, planning and evaluating. It’s a time to look back, yes, but it’s also a time to look ahead.

Year 12 on the blog will hopefully continue to be meaningful for you and me alike. I’m excited to keep the conversations going and to continue sharing, learning from and supporting one another in the chaos that is cancer and through the heartache of loss – any kind. And yes, I will step out of my lane, too, whenever I darn please.

As a way to celebrate and say thank you, my books, Getting Past the Fear: A guide to help you mentally prepare for chemotherapy and Cancer Was Not a Gift & It Didn’t Make Me a Better Person: A memoir about cancer as I know it, are both ON SALE!

And it’s my biggest sale ever!

This is a temporary price slash. So, if you’ve been wanting to read my books but haven’t gotten around to it, this is a perfect time.

If and when you do read one or both, or if you already have, it would mean a lot to me if you left reviews on Amazon.
