McDowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whiskey Review

Diet Mate reviewMcDowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whiskey Review

Winters are not winters without a bit of alcohol, well am I right or am I right !! I remember as kids during winters when it used to snow outside our parents at times gave us a spoonful of Brandy to make us stay warm at night and when I became a parent, and were staying in Jammu & Kashmir, Brandy came to my rescue to keep my young kids warm. Let’s be honest and accept that with changing times social drinking has become a common thing and hardly any social do is complete without some alcohol. What I find most interesting is that the people (read women) who are trying to lose weight find it very confusing in such social events… they want to drink a bit but keep thinking of calories they will consume because it is a well known fact that alcohol is high in calories and carbs so a big no-no for weight watchers.

When I was on a strict low carb diet and logging religiously on Mfp, I realised that Vodka was the best option available for Low Carb Dieters, as it has zero carb count. If any day I had a Breezer then that was enough for me to stay hungry whole day as one Breezer had around 13 to 25 gm carbs in a 275 ml bottle… and who can stop at one!!!! 😛

Since new year is fast approaching and most of us are looking forward to some heart warming moments with a glass in hand so today I am going to help all the booze lover weight watchers around. During this vacation I found McDowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whisky, which my husband said was okay for a dieter (despite of all my efforts of explaining the difference between low calorie and low carb dieters….and that I am on a low carb diet… for him a dieter is a dieter)

Some time back we had reviewed Diet Coke and Coke Zero here in this space and after Coke, it’s now the turn of diet whisky. Calorie conscious whisky lovers can relax a bit as the UB Group’s spirit division has introduced McDowell’s No.1 Diet Mate – the world’s first diet whisky in the domestic market. And recently I tasted this Mc Dowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whisky and let me be very honest I am not a Whisky person… for me Vodka and Lemon flavored Rum is just good enough. Whisky is not my thing as I can’t stand that hangover which spoils the whole next day… BUT  Mc Dowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whisky saved me from those awkward moments and wastage of a full day as it didn’t give me any hangover though according to my husband the amount I had was not enough to give a hangover yet I personally know that the name of Whisky is enough to give me one. 😉

What is special about it?

McDowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whiskey Review

By launching a diet whisky, the company has explored an opportunity to address an important consumer need of fitness besides bringing in excitement into the whisky category. Today young consumers look for variety and excitement in various categories brands. What they are most concerned about is that drinking leads to additional weight and obesity and as an answer to that concern the diet whisky is a special effort.

Mc Dowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whisky is blended with the finest selected Scotch. It has GARCINIA extract to add some health benefits too. So when you have Diet Whisky, you will enjoy all benefit of a reserve whisky with an added health advantage. Garcina, as we all know is an ancient Indian herb which is currently becoming rage in many western nations including America, Japan and Europe. It is thought to have a rare ability to burn excess fat and control cholestrol levels in human body. Garcinia is recommended as a dieting aid in addition to exercise and a balanced diet.

Taste

As far as taste is concerned there is not much of a difference between any other Whisky and Mc Dowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whisky. Surely it has the smoothness of any good Whisky in the market.

Myth busted

Though Diet Mate has an ingredient Garcinia that increases metabolism, but that doesn’t make it a diet product as it is not a low-calorie whisky, so if you think that you will drink it and lose weight or drink it to lose weight then I am sorry dearies you are mistaken, as you will surely gain weight if you have more than required for extra calories can kill.

My verdict

My verdict can wait a bit but I would love to share these two pics of the advertisements of this Diet Mate Whisky. Enjoy…  😉

And  here is another one, take a look… 🙂

mcdowells-adam- diet mateAren’t those advts. pics cute? I loved them and had a hearty laugh looking at them so thought of sharing.

Now coming to the product;

Since this product claims to be a dieter’s delight so I expected to find nutrition data on the packing but I could nowhere find the calorie count of Diet Mate, neither on the packing nor on the various sites which were propagating this product so can I really believe the claim of the company that Mc Dowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whisky is a low calorie product? Well no, I can’t believe so will treat it as any normal Whisky, nothing linked to diet in it, so probably will avoid it in the future.

Is it safe for diabetics? Who knows! Nothing is mentioned there. So, a thumbs down from my side for the lack of transparency about nutrition data. Is there anything else that can be called special in this Whisky?

Is it worth paying extra money to buy this so called ‘Diet whiskey’? Is there anything else that can be called special in this Whisky? Hmm, well.. nope. (that is my personal viewpoint.) Garcinia or no garcinia… a whisky is a whisky. Right?

Are you going to try McDowell’s No.1 Diet Mate Whiskey in the next party?
