DLN Success Story – Patient with Disabilities Gets a New Smile!
[ad_1]
Danny is a 66-year-old man who lives in Gallatin County near his sister and niece with whom he enjoys spending his free time. Danny has Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, pre-diabetes and mental health challenges including PTSD.
In addition to these health challenges, his dental health was also deteriorating. Danny had only nine remaining teeth, which made eating difficult. Unable to work most of his life, Danny relies on a Social Security Disability benefit and lives in subsidized housing. Finances are tight and he could not afford the much-needed dental treatment.
How DDS Helped
Fortunately, Danny was referred to the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program by the Mental Health Center in Bozeman and was linked with two generous volunteers that restored his dental health and smile.
Who Helped: Dr. Jason Tanguay provided a comprehensive exam and X-ray, extracted nine teeth, and with the help of O’Brien Dental Lab, Inc., donated a full upper and lower denture.
“Our DDS patients have all been very appreciative and express that appreciation. Our staff loves seeing DDS patients and it helps to re-affirm one of the reasons they work in healthcare – to help people.”
—Dr. Jason Tanguay, DDS Volunteer and DLN • MT Board member
