In Swahili, “limau” means lemon. And why is that fact so interesting? Because we are excited to announce our latest charity partner, Limau Cancer Connection in Kenya!

Limau Cancer Connection is a platform of hope for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, providing resources to enable patients to live a better life after a cancer diagnosis. One of their main activities is knitting breast prostheses for women who have had a mastectomy, often handmade by patients themselves.

Nancy Githoitho Founded the charity in 2017 after the death of her mother who had breast cancer. Nancy saw the lack of support and cultural barriers cancer patients faced and wanted to change it for future women.

Nancy is excited to become an official partner, “We are here to help patients make a lemonade out of their journey. We are thrilled to partner with the Know Your Lemons Foundation to expand our services to helping women find breast cancer early through better education. So far 16 volunteers have signed on to the training course and we can’t wait to have them educating in their communities and villages across Kenya!”

Thanks to your donations, we have been able to send 16 education kits for the educators in Kenya. These kits use a flipchart format and games to educate in small groups. Our unique approach to education makes it easier to talk about breast cancer, and learn how to find it as early as possible.

Know Your Lemons Founder, Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont says, “We are looking forward to this new partnership. It is just the beginning and we can’t wait to hear how it will change women’s lives. Nancy’s passion and commitment are inspiring and we are happy to support her team!”
