Lose 1 lb. of FAT per Week – the Healthy Way with Total Gym
[ad_1]
I want to be completely transparent with you all. During the past 2 years of Covid-19, I literally put on the Covid-19, pounds of fat that is! I sported a sizable gut throughout my teens but when I got to college, I became an avid runner, started taking aerobics (originally just to meet girls!), and traded in my daily trips to McDonald’s for healthier alternatives. I lost my unsightly spare tire which led me towards a rewarding career in fitness helping others create a path to healthier living.
I’ll let the pictures tell my story. Below is me on my 50th birthday vs me after 2 years and 2 months of enduring the Covid era.
It’s like a sad, reverse “Before and After” scenario! That was very hard for me to post. Although, I was pushing my belly out for maximum effect.
I was avoiding submitting video blogs as I was waiting to get “Camera Ready” but I kept sliding. I reached out to my Total Gym contact and explained the situation. We figured, “Hey, a large part of the population is in this same boat – so why don’t we turn lemons into lemonade, be honest with our Total Gym Team – and help others that have a desire to get back on a healthy track.”
Whether you’re on a similar sinking boat as I am, or would just like to lose some fat, I’d love you to join me. We can help each other through this blog series as it has reignited my motivation to get my healthy life back.
We will be posting this blog and video for the next 5 weeks to see what happens so please share this with Friends & Family so we can extend this past 5 weeks. I have helped many, many clients lose fat and gain health so I have a plethora of tips, tricks, and strategies to share with you.
Hey JayDee, Why Only 1 lb. a Week?
Good question which I get only 100% of the time! We live in an instant gratification world and we’re bombarded with fad diets with outrageous claims like “Lose 5 lbs in one week” or even more. So heed the following advice for long term success:
Here are the problems with trying to lose 5 lbs a week:
๏ You’d have to create a Huge caloric deficit to do this (24,500 a week to be specific – more on this math coming up). Much of this would be water weight and even worse – muscle! Muscle is essential for your metabolism. When you keep your muscles active and hungry, you’ll burn more calories all day every day – even at rest. We want to lose only fat.
๏ Your body resists such a drastic change. It proclaims, “Hey, I think my host is starving? I better hold onto these fat cells so we don’t fade away!”
๏ This leads to Yo-Yo dieting. Peeps who lose weight at drastic rates are much, much more liking to gain it right back – and even more!
๏ You’ll be miserable! Eating is one of life’s pleasurable joys and this much deprivation can leave you grumpy and hangry with lackluster energy to enjoy life. And once you end your famine, here comes the Yo-Yo as you gorge on comfort foods you’ve been missing.
Now, take the opposite narrative on the above 4 bullet points to “ingrain in your brain” why losing one lb. of Fat per week is the way to go.
Here is the question I pose to clients who want to lose too much weight too fast. Something like, “Would you be happy if 20 weeks from today, you wake up 20 lbs lighter, healthier, and able to keep it off for good?”
OK Team, click on the video to see the simple 3-prong strategy we will employ. Every week I will give a new tip for each prong.
Let’s Do This!

At this moment, I am a doctor and a health blogger. I wrote my first blog post in 2008 about a new symptom I had experienced with my skin. By 2011, I was writing almost weekly about medical topics and had become a contributing writer at fitcoachion.com. It didn't take me long to realize that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. In 2014, I started working as a doctor and have written more than 25,000 words in that capacity. In addition to working as a doctor, I have also worked as a public relations specialist and as an English tutor.
