Northeast Delta Dental Foundation Supports Maine’s Donated Dental Services (DDS) Program

Denver, CO, November 9, 2021 – More than 100 people in Maine are on a waiting list to be matched with a volunteer dentist who can provide comprehensive dental care. With a grant from the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation, Dental Lifeline Network is able to continue supporting Maine’s Donated Dental Services (DDS) program to meet those needs.
Maine’s DDS program provides comprehensive dental care for people in need, including people with disabilities, complicated health conditions and seniors who cannot otherwise afford it.
“These funds help bridge an essential gap to provide care for those needing it,” said Fred Leviton, president and CEO of Dental Lifeline Network. “Many of the cases our volunteer dentists work on require comprehensive treatment. And often, even when people are able to use safety net programs for other kinds of care, oral health is not necessarily covered or available to them.”
Across Maine, a network of nearly 150 dentists and more than 20 labs have provided services to over 1,500 people since 1999. Dental care professionals donate their services, but Maine’s DDS program relies on funding to coordinate care between patients and the dentists.
“Too often the oral healthcare needs of the underserved are ignored,” explained Jennifer McGrath, Manager, Foundation and Marketing Initiatives. “So, we are proud to support DLN to carry out our mission of improving access to and quality of dental care.”
Northeast Delta Dental Foundation’s grant is a significant contribution to the cumulative celebration happening for the DDS program nationally. For 35 years DLN has partnered with volunteer dentists, laboratories, and strategic corporate partners across the country and connected people with special needs to comprehensive dentistry. This past August, DLN reached a new milestone: $500 Million in donated dental treatment! That’s half a billion dollars of care which has helped 165,000 individuals.
